Heritage

Perpetual is when an end
becomes a beginning

Karl, Hans and Anna Wilsdorf

What the Wilsdorf family is today began with hardship and sorrow. Hans Wilsdorf and his siblings were orphaned in early childhood. From this, they drew a few lasting lessons: Whereas being independent in life, they have always stood as one and developed a deep sense of continuity and a focus on the long-term. These principles became the foundation for exceptional achievements as entrepreneurs, as philanthropists, and above all, as family. These principles live on.

Becoming self-reliant very early in life made me acquire the habit of looking after my possessions and, looking back, I believe that it is to this that much of my success is due. / Hans Wilsdorf

Yet there is another beginning. Perpetual was established by the Wilsdorf family as an independent investment office, to make the orphans’ heritage perpetual. It is trusted with the assets of the Wilsdorf family and an international network of select entrepreneurs and institutions standing as one. Perpetual builds on an exceptional reputation for precision, reliability, and quality, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to future generations.

Philosophy

Perpetual is a lasting commitment
to future generations

The first self-winding wristwatch was called Perpetual. Today this name stands for an investment philosophy as well.

Perpetual means enduring

Striving to reliably preserve and steadily grow real value across generations, Perpetual adopts a systematic approach based on sound economic evidence. The target is consistent returns and significant compounding benefits over the long term.

Perpetual means reliable

Unconstrained allocation across the full spectrum of asset classes–with complementary risk premia and decorrelated strategies–enhances risk-adjusted returns and resilience through changing economic, geopolitical, and market conditions.

Perpetual means permanent

As a long-term investor, Perpetual provides permanent capital and continuously allocates to private markets. Such illiquid assets offer the opportunity to capture value over extended investment horizons with enhanced diversification and the potential for additional returns. This compensates investors for the reduced flexibility and increased complexity associated with illiquidity.

Perpetual means sustainable

Lasting value requires accounting for costs and benefits to society and environment in an objective, verifiable and comprehensive manner. By valuing externalities and integrating them into strategic asset allocation and portfolio management, Perpetual ensures that its investments are truly effectual for future generations.

Perpetual means independent

With the interests of investors, shareholders, and employees fully aligned, Perpetual can focus solely on investment performance. The multi-manager platform with an open architecture enables Perpetual to partner with the world’s best asset managers, leverage economies of scale, and optimize costs.
